Two Tune Tuesday: Femme Crooners

Posted by – December 29, 2009

I was listening to NPR’s listeners’ picks for the best songs of 2009 when I was reminded of that Metric track “Sick Muse.” Minutes later, an ad for Hennessy came on featuring The Cardigans’ “Lovefool” which has long been a favorite of mine. In fact, First Band on the Moon is a great little collection of songs (including the most bizarre cover of “Iron Man” imaginable).

So here they are, together. They make nice bookends, no?

Nice bookends, indeed!! I just downloaded them both. I thank you further since my friend Taleen plays “Help I’m alive” in her car every time we go out and I could never remember the name of the band.
That is indeed a unique version of “Iron Man”. I’m reminded of the Nouvelle Vague version of “Guns of Brixton” by the Clash. Cleo and I are both building sets of covers to swap with each other. My other new favorite (ancient) cover is X’s (as in Exene Cervenka) cover of The Doors’ “Soul Kitchen” complete with Exene’s trademark voice-breaking shriek.
