Homophobic Policy

SpaWorld, a Fairfax, VA spa openly denies trans and queer clientele. I have always been a little amazed by people who will not even accept our money – I mean, that’s real hate.

The worst part? It’s their policy, not an accident or an overzealous homophobic employee, AND it’s perfectly legal.

“It is our policy to not accept any kinds of abnormal sexual oriented customers to our facility such as homosexuals, or transgender(s).”

“Also, for the safety and the comfort of young children at Spa World, we strongly forbid any abnormal sexual behaviors and orientation in our facility. Despite the controversial issue of homosexuality and transgender, it is our policy to not accept them.”

Wow. I assume there is no actual policy against child molesters, however.

  1. …assuming you’re referring to the recent calamity with Riya Suising, perhaps a bit more to it than at first glance. In response to a BBB inquiry, onsite manager Jame Lee (relation of the owner?) indicated the incident was a result of “misunderstanding and a language problem”. He claimed that the spa will “welcome and allow customers of any sexual orientation or gender identity, and that in the future, transgender customers will not be asked to leave”. So, as often is the case, the reality is probably that they had no idea of the shitstorm that could result from their policy and belatedly attempting to plug the hole in the dyke, albeit reluctantly.

I guess that if people aren’t willing to treat others fairly and with respect voluntarily and because it’s simply the right thing to do, things could be a lot worse than their begrudgingly falling in line out of self interest…

  2. I hope this news gets around, particularly the legality, because I think a lot of people think discrimination is somehow inherently illegal, and thus those “special rights” they’ve heard The Gays want must be for free cake or something.
