I love JAC Stringer. Okay, there, I said it.
& Now you do too.
Check out the other stuff JAC does at www.midwestgenderqueer.com.
Haitian Author
For those of you who want to read more about Haiti, do check out the author Edwidge Danticat (if you don’t know her work already).
RIP Flo McGarrell
A Vermont artist who was also trans died in Haiti during the earthquake.
Our love & condolences to his parents, friends, & family.
RIP Dr. Maxwell Anderson
You might remember Maxwell Anderson as Robert Eads’ close friend in Southern Comfort, or maybe you’ve never heard of him, but he’s been a trans activist for a couple of decades, and was well-loved.
He died today after being diagnosed with brain cancer not very long ago.
His last words to his friends are here.
His last public talk – given at an Atlanta Rally this past June – is here.
From activist Monica Helms:
Please pass on your prayers for Max to Pastor Paul Turner, at: pastorpaul@gentlespirit.org, Stormie Marshall at: stormie@drmaxwellanderson.com or leave them as a comment on the video.
RIP Maxwell Anderson. You did good in this world, which is the best any of us can do. & Thank Robert for us, when you see him.
The Gender Puzzle Documentary
The Gender Puzzle is a 45 min documentary about intersex that can be seen on YouTube; it’s worth watching if you’re new to intersex issues. You can also check out a 10-min. version.
You can buy a copy here, check out a t r u t h o u t column about it (& Caster Semenya), or check out the filmmakers’ website.
LGBT Haitians
To donate to help LGBT Haitians in the midst of this horrific earthquake, try The Rainbow World Fund. (GLAAD recommends them, too.
Normally we wouldn’t necessarily funnel our funds through an LGBT org, but considering Haiti’s shite national support for LGBT civil rights, we’re worried our families won’t be counted & so won’t receive aid, so we need to make sure we are counted & helped.
1st (Male) Same Sex Sex Scene on Daytime TV
I assume the corniness is typical for daytime TV, but there’s no reason a same-sex sex scene can’t be as corny as anyone else’s. With fireworks, even.
For someone who went to see My Beautiful Laundrette about a dozen times – in theatres, people! – it makes me happy to see this on regular old television.
Love is love is love.

Trois Tune Tuesday: French Pop
Prototypes is a new band; I have no idea where I found them. Air is from the late 90s, Les Rita Mitsouko were around in the late ’80s, when this track – and the video – got play in plenty of clubs (at least the ones I went to).
Conveyor Belt of Love?
I have no idea if anyone in the world watches the show Conveyor Belt of Love, but I did find this clip (& this blog post about it) interesting.
Scott Schofield, as he introduces himself, is Scott Turner Schofield, trans guy, activist, artist.
More interesting to me is the whole “geek hot” idea – I mean that it requires its own terminology. I didn’t know other people didn’t find geeks hot. When is smart not hot? Baffling. Once again, I discover that I have never done “straight woman” correctly.
Renault Trans-Friendly (& Trans Family Friendly!) Advert
Okay, this made me cry, really.
The world is changing. Slowly, but it is. I have met so many really cool kids – teenagers & adults, mostly – who are cool with their parents’ gender stuff that it is really nice to see this. That’s what made me cry; just seeing a presentation of all those cool KOTs (Kids of Trans) in any medium.
