Two Walls

Here’s an interesting article by a Jewish trans woman on two visits to the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem – one before, one after transition.

  1. Wow. Thanks to Sarah and to you, Helen, for turning us on to this. Her story resonates with me; the disassociation, the emptiness the resistance to accepting our own nature.
    Just wow.

  2. About five years ago I was studying about and working toward conversion into a highly observant flavor of Judaism. After wrestling with it for a few years I finally admitted that the pressure of adding a religious dimension to the gender concerns in my life was too much for me to bear.

I have a great deal of respect for those who are able to integrate tradition and identity, those who can find balance between the needs of the individual and the needs of the community. I feel empathy with those who continue to struggle. Thanks for sharing the link.
