More Education, Less Sex

Posted by – November 10, 2007

Yet another report has been published that proves that comprehensive sex ed keeps kids from having as much sex, as many partners, and from getting STDs. Despite that, of course, our government is still throwing money at abstinence-only sex ed:

“Congress is currently considering a funding bill which includes $141 to fund these programs, an increase of $4 million over President Bush’s request.”

So we’re paying more to educate kids less. Isn’t it counter-intuitive to spend so much money to keep kids ignorant? That’s never cost anything in the past.

Is everyone else tired of reporting this?

Did we vote for this when we voted to elect a Democratic congress??

This reminds me, in a roundabout kind of way, of some silly twat who went to the same (Catholic) school I did (in Australia), and who often used to get depressingly sanctimonious essays published in the school’s annual magazine. One of his efforts was entitled “Stop the Porn” and, in addition to blaming Satan for pornography (an assertion I found hilarious), quoted some fucktard “expert” who claimed that a direct relationship existed between the number of sex crimes that were committed in a given society, and the amount of knowledge that that society’s members had about sex. The obvious “lesson” being that ignorance about sex was a wonderful thing, and we should therefore return to the good old days when children were taught their genitals were dirty, girls believed they were dying when they had their first periods, teenagers having sex believed the girl couldn’t get pregnant the first time, and so on and so forth. Funnily enough, all of the “authorities” this guy quoted to support his views were notorious Christian fundamentalists from your neck of the woods, so I didn’t feel any great need to take any of his assertions seriously.
