Despite it having been quite a long week, Betty convinced me to use a ticket to see Rufus Wainwright that a friend offered me, and I’m glad she did. I’d been a little worried because I haven’t been able to “get in” to the new Rufus CD, Release the Stars, as easily as I have with the others. (Now, after having seen the songs live, it’s probably the production that’s blocking me.) That said, Rufus was as charming live as ever, with not one but three costume changes (1st – striped suit & blouse, 2nd – monogrammed lederhosen, 3rd – white terricloth robe, and 4th – tuxedo jacket, hose, pumps, & fedora, a la Judy Garland) and in fact the 4th outfit was due to his performing “Get Happy” which she did originally in the movie Summer Stock in 1950. He sat down on a stool center stage while still wearing the robe, and carefully put on two very sparkly earrings, lipstick – sans mirror, even – and black pumps. Then he stood up & shed the robe, & underneath was the tuxedo jacket. It was fun and good performance, as he got all the band members to play the backup dancers, all attired in full-on tuxedos.
A great ending to a pretty intense week; he really is one hell of a performer so if you do like any of his stuff & get a chance to go see him: DO.

What a wonderful musician and lyricist. “Poses” is my favorite of his compilations. He’ll be in my area soon and I hope to see him perform live. You’re the third person who has recommended this tour.
Glad you had a fun evening!
I wanna know … Do YOU know Rufus? ;p
