Sexism for $200, Alex

Just now on Jeopardy, in the “About the Book” category, the clue was (something like)

Found at the beginning of the book, it can run to several pages, and includes thanks yous to editors, agents, grant-making institutions, and wives.

And people think I’m whining when I say that “author” = “man” in a lot of people’s minds. Saying to yourself, “well that person is just sexist” works sometimes, but it’s the ongoing, subtle, water torture chipping away that really gets to you after a while.

It will aways get to me. I hate it when a website demands my Gender. It used to paralyse me for hours. I was against the changing/amending of sex on Birth Certificates here. I wouldn’t settle for anything less than a non-gendered/sexed Certificate,

Thanks for the mail – I’m rooting for you and, incidentally

    you ARE beautiful as well

You can see it for yourself: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=1170

It’s the $1600 clue in the All About the Book category in Double Jeopardy.

Trebek himself is a decent guy but he occasionally says grating things…like generally calling all women under 30 “young lady” but never calling guys the same age “young man.” (Or young lady, for that matter, even if it would be appropriate…)

‘Jeopardy’ Champ Ken Jennings Blasts Show: http://apnews.excite.com/artic.....8LS00.html

NEW YORK (AP) – “Jeopardy!” ace Ken Jennings, who won $2.5 million during his 74-game winning streak, has a few unkind words to say about the show – and dapper host Alex Trebek.

“I know, I know, the old folks love him,” Jennings writes in a recent posting, titled “Dear Jeopardy!” on his Web site.

“Nobody knows he died in that fiery truck crash a few years back and was immediately replaced with the Trebektron 4000 (I see your engineers still can’t get the mustache right, by the way).”…
